Ivar Wigan
Born in Scotland, and raised in London, photographer Ivar Wigan approaches narrative and portrait scenes with a nuanced sensitivity to social interaction. Through imagery culled from intimate relationships and interactions with his surroundings, the photographer aims to break down barriers that society has built up around minority and youth cultures.
Ivar’s most well known project is 'The Gods', a series he created during time spent immersed in the urban culture of the Southern US cities of Atlanta, Miami and New Orleans. It was here that the artist first became absorbed by the mutable youth and music cultures that unfold out of the African diaspora. Following this he spent two years living in Kingston, Jamaica, where again he continued to document his friends and the environment around him. In 2017 he exhibited a selection of work made in Jamaica during this period titled ‘Young Love’. Ivar captures energy, beauty and personality in an authentic and arresting way of subjects are those rarely seen by mainstream media and fashion.
